I have devoted many years of my career to health, in its various aspects. As a university teacher and medical school employee, I was involved in public health issues, teaching students how to identify and respond to patient needs. Now my professional path has taken me into completely new territory: nursing and counselling on HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. I specialise in public health, lifestyle health risks and advise on how to live healthily and safely.
I am a co-founder and board member of the Foundation for Health and Social Inclusion "Trzy Końce" ("Three Ends") in Katowice, where we work for the benefit of the local society, especially those at risk of health exclusion, stigmatisation and insufficient knowledge of the dangers of lifestyle behaviours. Since, as the Polish proverb says, "every stick has two ends", the aim of our foundation is to act for those at the "third end", those who do not fit into the stereotype but are still members of society. We direct our efforts first and foremost to the LGBTQ+ community, but we also do not forget others, all those for whom sexual health, health in general, is important.
I am currently completing a degree in nursing, which is a completely new area of learning for me. I have, of course, worked with nurses over the years, but now I am part of this community. In my nursing work, I actively advocate for my patients, I am keen to take on the new challenges that Evidence-Based Nursing brings, and I participate in continuing education for nurses. I see this profession as an excellent method of self-realisation and an opportunity to help patients as a medical professional.
